Pencil Portrait of Blaze
Blaze, a red-tailed hawk with a broken wing was a resident of the Audubon Society in Philadelphia. I met him at a pow wow where he posed for me on the arm of his keeper. This is an example of my technique of a developed pencil drawing as the first step to a full color illustration. Finding the subject with a pencil and electric eraser, I scan the art first to preserve the drawing then freely add color and glazes with watercolor. Final steps are adding touches of pastel to add sparkle and glow. More examples of this underdrawing technique are here
